a little about our restaurants

OK, whether you’ve visited us before or not, please have a read so you can show off your knowledge of our impressive restaurants to your fellow diners.

Our restaurants have been ‘no smoking’ since 2003 and as our restaurants are subtly split into a formal and relaxed areas a couple can dine in a quiet, more private manner and larger groups can experience a less formal occasion.

oldfields in Durham

There’s a spacious, fully accessible ground floor contemporary lounge restaurant which normally seats up to 60 diners at tables from 2 to 10.  This can of course seat a single party of up to 60 if required.

Deep red walls and dark wood bar displaying over 40 types of wine create a warm, cozy atmosphere.  Solid wood floors further enhance the quality of the venue and large windows allow plenty of natural light.

Upstairs there’s a wonderful, spacious oak paneled boardroom complete with stained glass windows and 17 foot high moulded plaster ceiling features.  This room seats a further 30 and is either used as a fantastic restaurant environment or else private parties, functions and conferences.

The building was built in 1881 and was formerly the headquarters of The Durham Gas Company.

oldfields in Newcastle

Housed within the ground floor of a listed building, our Newcastle restaurant provides a welcome change from the norm.

The large floorspace of the restaurant is separated into three main areas for dining. The round, a spacious, paneled room with a fantastic original fireplace. The pass, where you can watch the chefs at work, and the halls – a large area split by feature fireplace hearths from the original building.

We can accommodate you as a couple for a quiet diner or a party of up to one hundred people for a private function.

We’ll look after you; day and night

Waiting staff work calmly and quietly to create an extra special, relaxing atmosphere for evening dining.

And the oldfields team work super efficiently at lunchtimes too, enabling busy business people and their guests to experience the same exceptional service and food quality as they would in the evening at a pace that won’t interrupt a busy schedule.
